the speed of sound is more in solids as compared to liquids and speed of sound is more in liquids than in gases

Sound reguried medium for it's propogation.

Speed of sound is maximum in solids and least in gases whereas the liquids come in between.

Because of atoms structure.

Solids molecules are binded closely with other molecule compard then liquid and gas. That the reason speed of sound waves is maximum in solid.

Consider the refractive index of the materials, the velocity of light is increase with decrease in refractive index.

Yes @Nishtha is correct, in solids atoms are tightly packed and in gases they are loosely packed and due to these variations we could hear two consequent sounds made by the cloth washers at the water sources side.

Velocity of sound depend on density of the medium, as density increases velocity of the sound also increases.

Sound travels by vibration of particles. The closer the particles are to each other the higher the speed it will travel at. Since particles are closely packed together in solids, we therefore expect the highest velocity in solids followed by liquids and finally gases.

I think sound speed is more in solid like iron so the order of speed of sounds solid, air, water.
