Because Mirage is called 'Mrig Trishna'.

"Mrig Trishna", or "deer's thirst" (as you call it in literal translation) is a "Mirage".

In deserts, a hot sun beating down on sand at times gives an illusion of water, and a thirsty deer runs towards it only to be disappointed. That's how the term got coined.

It is an optical illusion in which atmospheric refraction by a layer of hot air distorts or inverts reflections of distant objects.
