Why the name changes of various places and cities? Money which would have been spent on the changing of places cost crores of Rs. whereas that money can be directly use for the development, so please tell me clearly why name of the places changes occur in-spite we know that money can be utilized on a better way.

They were known as Laccadive Islands, although geographically this is only the name of the central subgroup of the group. After INDIA's independence the group was named as lakshadweep (sanskrit word which means thousand).

@All.

To easily pronounce the word by local people, Laccadive is a British-originated name; to stop the Britisher's impression, the government decided to change the name.
