Velayudhan ChempakaramanThampi was the Dalawa or Prime Minister of the Indian kingdom of Travancore between 1802 and 1809 during the reign of His Highness Maharajah Bala Rama Varma Kulasekhara Perumal. He is best known for being one of the earliest individuals to rebel against the British East India Company's supremacy in India.

Travancore is one of the three divisional parts of Kerala during east India company ruling times. It is now called Thiruvananthapuram the capital city of Kerala. It is also called as the land of spices.

Velu Thampi was the 'dhalava' (minister) of travancore state. He fought against the British East India Company and become a martyr in 1809.

Travancore was a kingdom which included central and southern Kerala, Kanyakumari district, and the southern most parts of Tamil Nadu.
