Muslim League (1906):

In 1906, All India Muslim League was set up under the leader ship of Aga Khan, Nawab Salimullab of Dacca and Nawab Mohsin-ul-Mulk. The League supported the partition of Bengal, opposed the Swadeshi Movement, and demanded special safegurds for its community and a separate electorates of Muslims. This led to communal differences between Hindus and Muslims.

The founder of All India Muslim League was not a single individual. It was founded by a group of people. It was founded on 30 december, 1906 at Dhaka(now in Bangladesh). It was founded by the followers, admirers and companions of Aligarh Movement. The first head quarters were at Lucknow. Sir Aga Khan was appointed as the first Honourary President. The founding meeting at Dhaka was attended by 3000 delegates. Some of the very respectable persons among the founding fathers of All India Muslim League included Nawab Sir Khwaja Salimullah, Nawab Waqar-ul-Mulk Kamboh, Nawab Mohsin-ul-Mulk and Syed Ameer Ali. These four respected individuals presided over the founding meeting at Dhaka.

The founding of Muslim League in 1906 by the elite Muslims at this period of time is a debatable question. Was it necessary for Muslims to make an organization on the basis of religion. Who were the members of this organization. Why they were supported by the British officials, especially lord Minto.

One of the aspect which I think is most important was the role and character played by English "man on sport". Though out the history of their rule in India they used an ideological weapons of Divide and rule policy. Already they has supported in the formation of the INc in 1885. But when they saw, that it is widening its sphere of activity, It was called party represented by "microscopic minority" or the party led by "Bengali Babus". To counteract this party "initially an elite having 72 members, more than half lawyers" they gave support to the Muslim league.
