Sylhet district was established on 3rd jan 1782. That time it was part of Dhaka. In 1878, it was included in the newly created Assam province and until 1947, sylhet district was a part of Assam. In 1947, as a result of a referendum, it was attached to the East Pakistan.

The North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) was a province of British India. It was established in 1901 and dissolved in 1955, after eight years as part of the independent state of Pakistan.
