A plantation is a long, artificially-established forest, farm or estate, where crops are grown for sale, often in distant markets rather than for local on-site consumption. The term plantation is informal and not precisely defined. Plantations are grown on a large scale as the crops are grown for commercial purposes, not for local consumption.

Crops grown on plantations include fast-growing trees (often conifers) , cotton, coffee, tobacco, sugarcane, sisal, some oil seeds (notably oil palms) and rubber trees. Farms that produce alfalfa, Lespedeza, clover, and other forage crops are usually not called plantations. The term "plantation" has usually not included large orchards (except for banana plantations) , but does include the planting of trees for lumber. A plantation is always a monoculture over a large area and does not include extensive naturally occurring stands of plants that have economic value. Because of its large size, a plantation takes advantage of economies of scale. Protectionist policies and natural comparative advantage have contributed to determining where plantations have been located.

Plantation crops are those trees or bushes that yield crops over a period of years in garden like cultivated lands and they are the mainstay of economy for many farmers. Most of the plantation crops are fast growing trees. E.g., Tea, Coffee, Rubber, Coconut, Cashewnut, Arecanut, oilpalm, Cocoa and betelvine etc. are the plantation crops.

Even cotton and sugar cane can b regarded as plantation crop.

Rice can never be plantation crop. As plantation crops are those crops which are grown in artificial made forest or farms. Mostly for cash or export bases.

I think cotton and sugarcane are apt for this question coming to these 2 varities they are mostly grown for commercial purposes and they are in use only after their processing to increase their market value too.

Plantation crops are temporarily set up forests, farms or estates for the purpose of exporting them rather than local consumption. Plantations may be harmful or useful depending on the type of crop cultivated.

Sugar and cotton are also plantation crops I guess as the question goes. Any kind of crop planted for commercial purposes on a large scale comes under plantation crops.

Coconut is the right answer because it will grow in this (in Kannada) remaining things are growing in gadde (in Kannada).

I think right answer should be rice as rice is grown but coconut is grown on trees.
