Zonal has nothing to do with the category of highest rank or majority.
One of the types of classification of soils is based on existence of horizons within the soil. That Soil which has layers such as Top soil, Horizon A, Horizon B, Horizon C which are present over the bedrock is classified as Zonal Soils.

It should be black (i.e. Regur) soil, red soil is found in part of karnataka and adjacent to western ghat only. Most of the area in maharashtra, andhra pradesh covers black soil.

Peninsular means a piece of land which is covered 3 sides by water and connected to land on one side (i.e Jammu &Kashmir).

Generally red soil is recognized as zonal soil.
