Malwa is a place of west centra India. It is generally volcanic upland north of vidya range. Malwa region included the district of western MP & parts of Rajasthan.

There is no sal forest in Malwa Plateau. It's full of teak.

I thought due to the proximity of the Godavari river, the answer is always North East of Godavari.

Because most of the forests extend beyond the geographical area of the Malwa Plateau.

As regards the area under Sal forests, Orissa leads among the different states with about 38,300-sq.km area under Sal forest followed respectively by Madhya Pradesh 27,800 sq.km, Bihar 21,410 Uttar Pradesh 5,710, West Bengal 5,700, Assam 6500, Himachal Pradesh -330 and Haryana with 40 sq.km.
