Saffron is the most expensive spice, due to the cost involved in harvesting it from the purple Crocus sativus, or the saffron crocus.

Ya, Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in India which cultivates Saffron (Crocus sativus) , particularly found in Pampore area of district Pulwama and its adjoining regions. Now the government has launched a scheme under which incentives are given to the farmers to rise its cultivation.
