The region mostly comprises Alluvial soil which is brought by most of the rivers flowing in this region and this region gets abundant rainfall which makes it even more fertile.

There are many perennial rivers flowing in gangetic plain which results in soil erosion from rocks, mountains and other parts where these rivers flow. This has resulted in high deposits of alluvial soil.
