There is no SI quantity like depth so answer should be length. Mind it. Depth is not an SI quantity it measured in terms of length.

I believe that Fathom is used to measure the depth of any liquid not only sea or ocean. Like the depth of oil in a tank.

The depth of the sea is measured using a instrument, that is Fathometer. so unit of the depth is fathom.
