Diamond is the allotrope of carbon, which forms strong covalent bonds of sp3 over each other with out any space between them like cage structure. It is so strong that diamond is cuted by another diamond only.

The diamond crystal is made up of carbon atoms which are powerfully bonded to one another by a network of covalent bonds. Due to this diamond structure is very rigid and due to this it is very hard substance and therefore used in drilling oil wells and making glass cutters.

Diamond is one of the most stable compounds. This is because there are no free electrons present and each carbon atom forms covalent bonds with 4 other carbon atoms forming tetrahedrons.
