Silicon carbide, also known as carborundum, is a compound of silicon and carbon with chemical formula SiC. It occurs in nature as the extremely rare mineral moissanite. Silicon carbide powder has been mass-produced since 1893 for use as an abrasive.

Diamond is the naturally occurring substance it is found rarely and costly but silicon carbide is man mad substance so mostly try to use the silicon carbide is used for cutting very hard substances.

Kevlar (a synthetic fiber of high tensile strength used especially as a reinforcing agent in the manufacture of tyres and other rubber products) is used to making bullet proof jackets.

Sure diamond is most hard substance but the cost and availability limit the use of diamond and therefore silicon carbide is used to the cut the very hard metal.

Silicon is less in cost that of diamond and to much hard to cut hard materials. We use diamonds also as cutting tool on cutting edge for more harder materials.

Friends, diamond is the hardest natural made substance.

But the silicone carbide is man made that's all. But the world's hardest material is "Lonsdaleite".

Question is not about the hardest substance. It's about the activity of the Silicon Carbide from the given option. Hope you all agree with my answer.

We can observe silicon carbide in many workshops. Asnit is used as cutting tool to cut hard materials.

Ex:- lathe machines, milling machines etc.

If diamond is the hardest naturally occurring substance, then what is used to cut it? Is it silicon carbide? Hope you answer my question soon. :).

Diamond is the hardest material but it is used for cutting non-ferrous materials only if we use for ferrous materials diffusion wear takes place.
