Indian school of mines is established in 1926 by John Penman on the behalf of London school of mines. Now it is converted to IIT and its name becomes (IIT, ISM DHANBAD), as it is situated in Jharkhand state and it is surrounded by all underground and open cast mines. Jharkhand is also called as "coal capital of India".
