Filariasis is a parasitic disease caused by an infection with roundworms of the Filarioidea type. These are spread by blood-feeding black flies and mosquitoes. This disease belongs to the group of diseases called helminthiases.

@Himanshu & @Faisal.

There is a difference between vector and causative organism.

Vector TRANSPORTS the causative organism, while the cause I've organism actually CAUSES the disease to occur.

For example, if you were bitten by a female anopheles mosquito that is NOT carrying plasmodium, you WILL NOT get malaria. (Although it's highly unlikely).

Anopheles Mosquitoes cause Malaria, not Filariasis. I think the answer is wrong.

Himanshu said:   7 years ago
It's wrong because filariasis is caused by Wuchereria, not by anopheles.

I think it is the wrong answer, as I have read that filariasis or elephantiasis is caused by wuchereria (worm)

Filariasis means swelling of lymph vessels this disease is termed as Elephantiasis. It is not a vector for malaria. Elephantiasis is caused due to female culex mosquito.

Filariasis is spread by mainly three mosquito genus namely Aedes, Culex and Anopheles especially in rural areas.
