In human anatomy, the intestine (or bowel) is the segment of the alimentary canal extending from the pyloric sphincter (valve) (small intestine) of the stomach to the anus.

What are the steps of food traveling in our body.

1. Food travels from the mouth down the esophagus via peristalsis.
2. It enters the stomach where protein is digested.
3. Travels into duodenum (the upper part of the small intestine) where pancreatic juice and bile is secreted. More digestion occurs.
4. Travels into rest of small intestine (ileum and jejunum) where nutrients are absorbed.
5. Whatever's left (usually fiber) travels into the large intestine where water and nutrients are reabsorbed almost completely.
6. Travels towards the anus to be disposed of.

There are 2 types:

1. Large intestine (Actual it is small).

2. Small intestine which is up to 7 meter long.

Dear @Prince.

Large intestine is actually large only! It is large in size! here we are talking about size of intestine not the length of it. So large intestine and small intestine are so because of their size. Small intestine is longer and large intestine is shorter.

For the interest, appendix is situated at the junction of small and large intestine! It is finger like projection and it is usefulness part of body, which can kill person if infected and rupture!

But we feel hungry very soon, approximately after 4 hour.

@Nusrat.

Once we eat food, first it goes to Stomach{food bag}. After that food has to travel Small intestine and Large intestine for digestion. Hunger reflex comes from stomach, so after 3 to 4 hours stomach gets empty! This time to empty stomach is called emptying time of stomach. So again we feel hungry!
