Gravity setting chambers:
- A simple particulate control device designed to remove suspended solid particles from a gas (e.g., flue gas) or liquid stream.
- Utilises the principle of gravitational settling by reducing the fluid's velocity as it passes through an enlarged chamber.
- This reduction in velocity allows larger and denser particles to fall out of suspension due to gravity and collect at the bottom of the chamber.
- Most effective for removing coarse, heavy, or relatively large particles (typically >50 micrometres) and has low efficiency for fine particulates.
- Characterised by its straightforward design, low capital and operating costs, and often serves as a preliminary separator in multi-stage treatment systems. (e.g., in industrial exhaust systems or wastewater treatment).
