The armistice between the Allies and Germany - also known as the Armistice of Compiegne after the location it was signed - was the agreement that ended the fighting in the First World War. It went into effect at 11 am on 11 November 1918, and marked a victory for the Allies and a complete defeat for Germany, although not technically a surrender. The Germans were responding to the policies proposed by American president Woodrow Wilson in his Fourteen Points of January 1918.
The actual terms, largely written by French Marshal Ferdinand Foch, included the cessation of hostilities, the withdrawal of German troops to behind their own borders, the preservation of infrastructure, the exchange of prisoners, a promise of reparations, the disposition of German warships and submarines, and conditions for prolonging or terminating the armistice. Although the armistice ended the actual fighting, it took six months of negotiations at the Paris Peace Conference to conclude the peace treaty, the Treaty of Versailles.

Armistice Day (which coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day, public holidays) is commemorated every year on 11 November to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiegne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning - the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918. Most countries changed the name of the holiday after World War II, to honor veterans of that and subsequent conflicts. Most member states of the Commonwealth of Nations adopted the name Remembrance Day, while the United States chose All Veterans Day.

The armistice between the Allies and Germany was signed in a railway carriage in Compiegne Forest on 11 November 1918, and marked the end of fighting in the First World War on the Western Front. The agreement made by them was outstanding as such war was stop and thing which they need is deserving by an agreement by defeating german people. It is therefore called as unconditional surrender nor a treaty.

First world was started on 28th July 1914 when Austria attacked Serbia. Germany was on Austria's side and its allies were on Serbia's side. It came into end on 11th Nov 1918 by an agreement to stop fighting which is known as armistice day. Germany was defeated and suffered a heavy loss.

The Armistice was agreed at 5 a.m. on 11 November, to come into effect at 11 a.m. Paris time, for which reason the occasion is sometimes referred to as "the eleventh (hour) of the eleventh (day) of the eleventh (month)". It was the result of a hurried and desperate process.
