It is also known as the first opium war. It was fought between China and Britain in China between 4 September 1839 to 29 August 1842 (2 years, 11 months, 3 weeks and 4 days). British won and then the treaty of Nanking was signed.

The first Opium War (1839-42) was fought between China and Britain, and the second Opium War (1856-60) , also known as the Arrow War or the Anglo-French War in China, was fought by Britain and France against China.

The war was fought with two reasons one that England wanted to trade with China for opium as Chinese people were offering silver coins to China. Another that England wanted to expand.
