Bharata Ratna awarded in 1954:

1. Chakravarti Rajagopalachari (1878 - 1972)-
The last Governor General of British India who was also a Freedom Fighter, belonging to Tamil Nadu.

2. Sir C. V. Raman ( 1888 - 1970)- Nobel-prize winning Physicist belonging to Tamil Nadu.

3. Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1888 - 1975)-
The Second President and the First Vice President of India, A Philosopher belonging to Tamil Nadu whose birthday is commemorated as "Teachers' Day".

Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, informally called Rajaji or C.R. , was an Indian lawyer, independence activist, politician, writer and statesman. Rajagopalachari was the last Governor-General of India.

Born: December 10, 1878, Thorapalli.

Died: December 25, 1972, Chennai.

Books: Mahabharata, Ramayana.

Children: C.R. Narasimhan.

Awards: Bharat Ratna.
