Primary batteries can be used once because the chemical reactions that supply electrical current are Irreversible. In secondary batteries that the chemical reaction that supply electrical current are readily reversed. So in both batteries chemical reaction only takes place to generate dc.

Transformer is a device which is used to step up and step down the voltage.

Rectifiers are used to convert AC to DC where.

Thyristors are used to convert dc to ac where in big industries.

IGBT are used to convert DC to AC here we can use frequency up to 1000 HZ.

It's not about the chemical activity that differs primary cell and secondary.

The chemical reactions in secondary can be reversible, so charging and discharging both are possible.

In primary reactions can't be reversible, so only discharging possible.

Actually transformer is a device which is used to step up and step down the voltage bcs we need only 220 volt for home issues or appliances. So to convert high voltage to low voltage we simply use transformer.

DC: Direct current which is supplied from batteries not from transformer. The graph of DC is totally straight but in AC(Alternating current) is sinusoidal which is supplied from transformer.

What is the chemical activity that takes place and the diff between the chemical activity taking place in primary cell and secondary cell. Can anyone explain me this?

Whats wrong with you @Kameshwar is transformer is converts AC to DC?

Transformer is step up and step down the voltage that's all. Just think and type the answer.

I won't agree with @Kameshwar answer.

Actually transformer is device which converts AC to AC.

Conversion of AC to DC by using rectifier.

@Kameshwar.

Transformer is used to step up and step down the voltage. We need a rectifier for the conversion purpose of ac to dc.

Transformer is transfer the electrical energy from one circuit to another circuit with out any changing frequency.
