Carbon cannot be used as a semiconductor material.

1. Carbon is not a semiconductor, because according to the band theory a semiconductor have not band gap more than 1.1 ev.

2. Carbon have energy gap around 1.5 ev.

3. 6 ev band gap for diamond which is a well known allotrope of carbon.

Carbon is not a semiconductor, as its energy band gap is of 6 eV. Atom size is small so more energy needed to move electron from valance band to conduction band.

Carbon has a band gap of 6ev it can't be a semiconductor.

How carbon is semiconductor?

Shashi said:   1 decade ago
Can be because it has 4 valence electrons.
