B is correct answer because free electrons are in conduction band. Electrons jump from valence band to conduction band leaving a gap in valence orbit called hole. The hole is the absence of an electron in valence band. Hole current occurs at the valence level.

The answer is hole because the question says that the electron moving from conduction band to valency band and it leaves gap in conduction band that gap is hole.
We all known that electron transition creates positive charge of holes. So the answer is hole.

Its holes, when electron jumps from valance band to conduction band there is absence of negative charge which give rise to a positive charge called holes which is nothing but absence of electron.

This gap is a positive energy. Due to this gap, the atom becomes a positive ion. The positive gap created here is called a hole because it is the hole created by the atom that left its place.

But actually for an electron in valence band to jump to the conduction band it has to cross the energy gap. The question was not asked in correct manner. I too vote for energy gap.

When an electron jumps from valence shell to conduction band that area of transition through which electron passes is called energy gap.

Either answer should be energy gap or the Q should be modified.

Is this forbidden energy gap? The question was not cleared.

I agree, the answer should be a) energy gap.
