But it must be ions because an ion is an atom missing or gaining an electron in a valence shell. And my atoms never move around although they may become charged.

It must be ions, because an atom after losing or gaining electron, loses its neutrality and becomes positive or negative ion. And in a semiconductor material, silicon atom holds this ion and ions cannot move. Also conductivity is only due to elctrons or holes as ions cannot move they don't contribute for conduction in a semiconductor material.

Obviously it is holes because ions have both -ve and +ve charge while -ve charge called electrons while +ve charge called holes. Holes don't move and due to movement of -ve charge current flow.

This may be ions. But holes cannot be wrong. Because holes is a virtual concept which is created due to the absence of electrons. And the movement of holes is apparent due to the opposite movement of the electrons.

On the other side. Yes ions does not move.

Under forward biased condition. When free electrons diffuse from N type to P type. Crossing the Pn Junction. The diffused electrons recombine with the free holes at P region. Both Free electrons and Holes vanish. Leaving behind immovable positive ion(Donor)at N Side. And Immovable negative ion(Acceptor)at P type.

So the answer will be "B.Ions" I think.

Electrons holes and ions are entirely different, ions remains as a result of lose of charge.

Answers is ions. Isn't this right?
