In series voltage divides, so total voltage is equal to the individual voltages. Hence impedance is also like voltage in series RLC circuits.

Where represent the angle between inductive and capacitive.

If Xc>XL then angle is -90 degree.

Again if XL<Xc then angle is 90 degree.
