I = V/R
I = 8/220 or .036A
P = VI
P = 8 * .036 or .290W
Since .290W > 1/4W(.250) you would need at least 1/2W(.500) resistor to handle the power.

Here power is the apparent and power. Rating is the max power handling capacity.
