Dot notation used for the transformer indicates the polarity of the winding. The dot shows maximum positive excitation voltage at that point. The current flowing into the dot of one winding will result into current to flow out of the dot on other winding.

Eg; 1:2, 4:5, 3:1, etc, here ':' indicates primary, secondary turns.
