INSULATOR : The conduction band is a long distance from the valance band.

SEMICONDUCTOR : The conduction band is closest the valance band.

CONDUCTOR : Both The conduction band and the valence are merged.

The answer should be conductors.

Conduction band energy for insulators > 5 eV.

Semiconductors 1.1 eV. Conductors 0 eV.

I think correct answer is A. Because in conductor conduction band and valence band overlap with each other.

In semi conductors also the conduction and valency band are in closely with a distance of 1.1ev.

RAVI said:   1 decade ago
@Yes Jadu & @Harish you both are correct.

Because in conductors both these bands overlaps.

B is right because min distance is in conductor as compared to semiconductor.

Question is asking for closest so answer is conductors.
