It is true, since typical semiconductors like silicon and germanium have negative temperature coefficient which indicates that as temperature increases it's resistance decreases effectively becoming like a short.

Because diode has negative temperature coefficient of resistance so as temp increases the conductivity increases thereby short circuit.
