Its very simple. It has only one input, "n" outputs and "m" select lines.
N=2^m.
For eg. N=8 and m=3. Then 8=2^3.

Demultiplexer is a data distributor, so demux has many outputs and only single input.

It acts as a receiver so it distribute with 2^m, where m is input of demux.
