In an ac circuit, a capacitor and an output resistor are connected in series with an ac signal. What filter action will be the result?

Here in the question it is not marked that output is taken from the Capacitor or Resistor,
If the output is taken from the capacitor then act as low pass filter (Resistor is connected nearer to the source) and If the output is taken from Resistor then circuit would act as high pass filter. (Capacitor is connected nearer to the source).
If the output is taken from the capacitor then act as low pass filter (Resistor is connected nearer to the source) and If the output is taken from Resistor then circuit would act as high pass filter. (Capacitor is connected nearer to the source).

Capacitor negative terminal is grounded so all high signal will be grounded. So neither high nor low signal will be in output.

Here. Both resistor and capacitor are connected in series so net resistance will increase therefore low current will flow across the circuit so it is low pass filter.

For high-frequency capacitor offer, low resistance so high frequency easily passed.

As it is connected in series with the ac signal it must be a high pass filter.
