What is an error detector?

Which compare the input signal and reference signal and give output as a diffrence (Error) of both.

Regulator means to regulate the voltage level to electronic components. Then how it act as error detector?

Hannu said:   1 decade ago
Not the regulator acts as error detector. It has the error detector circuit in order to compare the input and reference voltages.

Since series regulator has error detector that means it compare between input signal and reference signal (voltage). So series regulator has both.

It is possible in that regulator which is based on micro-controller in that circuit we use diff amp which gives the difference between input signal and reference signal. And gives that signal to micro-controller.

"Error detector" is supposedly the error amplifier.

A basic series regulator is composed of a Zener diode for voltage reference and a BJT which serves as the error detector. It detects whether it need to give less or more current to the load via the reference of zener diode and a feedback loop.
