AC voltage has both upper peak and lower peak. so, upper peak flows in clockwise direction(time clockwise) and lower peak flows in anti clockwise(time counter clockwise) direction.

For the positive half of the cycle (50%) it is positive going (clockwise) and for the negative half cycle (50%) it is negative going (counter-clockwise).
