In satellite communication, the band allocated is more since the communication happen at GHz range and if more bandwidth more AWGN so severe noise.

FM used to be used for analogue TV via satellites because it had excellent noise immunity compared to AM and provided a relatively good signal lock. PSK is much more efficient than FM and allows much better quality for the same bandwidth or in reality many more channels in the same bandwidth.
