Because as you raised the size of antenna there may be an issue of its maintain and it is not possible to tackle such a big antenna.
So therefore, to reduced the size of antenna there is a need to raise its frequency.

To make an antenna more directional, it must have a small or narrow beam width. Since beam width is directional to "lambda" or wavelength, that means it is inversely proportional to the frequency. Therefore, increasing its frequency will give it a narrow beam width thus, making the antenna more directional.

Directivity of any antenna is directly proportional to square of frequency of transmission.
