To demodulate the signal, first we have to separate the desire signal from the other signal in atmosphere that is done by RF amp, mixer and LO and then it converted to the fixed frequency called IF.

After the demodulate the signal we get the original signal which is RF signal.

Input of demodulator is RF and Output is IF or AF, which you want to take as o/p.

Mixer (frequency changer) is used between rf and demodulater.
