I think the value of a=1∠120 and a^2 = 1∠240 as when we do Square it should be double.
Now you can assume any cos or sin function to prove it.
Phase angle total= 360 and if it is having opposite value it turns to zero.This is based on assumption only.

It is standard formula.
i.e.,(1+w+w^2) = 0.
i.e.,(1+w+w^2) = 0.
