Each flipflop has one state i.e,5 FF has 5 states.

What is the function of ring counter?

An n-bit ring counter has only n states. Here 5 flip-flops are present (i. e 5 bits) so it has 5 states.

Ring counter is n state, given input 5 ff so answer 5.

Just remember - a flip-flop can store one-bit value so the number of states will be 5.

Ring counter means N-bit counter 5 ff means 5 bit so 5 states will be there.

Thanks a lot for all your explanation and solution.

Ring counter is N : 1 counter >>if it is 5, then 5 states.

Johnson counter is 2N : 1 counter>>here 10 states.

General counter is 2^N : 1 counter>>here 32 states.

In-ring counter, the number of the state depends on the number of the flip-flops.

Flipflop operates on clock whereas latch does not require clock. In synchronous system, all operation done at same time with same clock but in asynchronous system, operation done one by one with different clock inputs.
