Beta (β) - It is a current gain of common emitter transistor configuration.
Alpha (α) - It is a current gain of common base transistor configuration.
The relation between alpha and beta.
α=β/(1+β)
β=α/(1-α)
So if α=0.98 then β=0.98/(1-0.98) = 49.
