Applying reverse current in a photodiode is the same as applying a forward current. But their difference is that when in reverse bias, the junction of a photodiode is increasing, and if the junction increases, more electrons are gonna recombine to holes. While in forward bias, the junction will decrease thus decreasing the number of electrons that recombine to holes, resulting in a less current conduction.
