2. An electron that hasn't left its parent atom is an electron in the valence band.

3. The energy needed for an electron to be in the conduction band FROM the valence band is called the energy bandgap.

Therefore an electron that has left its parent atom means that it has been energized enough to cross the energy bandgap, meaning it has higher energy than the other electrons in the parent atom.
