Yes diode has 2 terminals one brought out from p-type semiconductor (lets call it A) and second from n-type semiconductor (lets call it K). Diode act as a switch. When A is + wrt K, it act as a closed switch and current flows through it, whereas when K is + wrt A, it act as an open switch and no current flows through it. Diode is the simplest of all the semiconductor devices. Other devices formed using diode principle are transistor, SCR to name a few. They all include multiple p-n junctions.

Option B says a diode works as a switch, I think every when our applied voltage is less that diode voltage that our circuit will not operate, which means our circuit is "off" and when we have applied voltage more than diode voltage.
Current will passes though the diode and our circuit will operate, which means our circuit is "ON". I think this is why diodes work as a switch. Correct me if I'm wrong.

See option A says that it is the simplest semiconductor formed of a p-type and n-type semiconductor.
Option B says that it acts like a switch since it has two states forward bias and reverse bias so forward bias acts high state that is on and in reverse bias it low state that is off
We know that option C is also true.
Hence all four are correct that is option D.

Diode is 2 terminal device. Which act as switch and also as rectifier. It is formed by 2 semiconductor that is extrinsic semiconductor (p-type and n-type) that's why it is called semiconductor device. And also diode is a unidirectional device.

Diode works as a switch such that when it forward bias current flows through it i.e. resistance is zero for ideal diode, but if it is reverse biased there is only current leakage i.e. resistance is infinite for ideal diode.

Simply diode is a combination of P-type and N-type semiconductors. P-type semiconductor consist of holes and N-type semiconductor consist of electrons.

Someone want to explain how a diode can be used as a switch?? Surely this is a characteristic specific to the transistor!
