The output gain of FET 1 without bypass capacitor is always lesser than the one with bypass capacitor. When we use a capacitor, gain increases and that signal would do the FET 2. So there's a possibility that the output of FET 2 might be distorted if input of FET 2 is 'TOO LARGE" to amplify. So it'll distort.
