Transformers do not change AC to DC. From its name it just transfers the voltage values only where the frequency will remain constant. It simply consists of winding or coils wound on an iron core and works on principle of mutual induction.

Transformer is a static device it converts electrical energy one circuit to another circuit with out any changing frequency like star connection to delta connection. Rectifier only convert to ac voltage to dc voltage.

Transformer is a static devise, it works on the function of mutual induction, its only use for voltage stepup/down, not like inverter or converter.

Transformer only transform the voltage, not convert the characteristics. Generally transform not work at dc quantity.
