It is just a continuous 5 step R, 2R, R, 2R network.

The smallest value is are (1k) and largest value is 2R (2k). If it is 10 or 20 step network. Doesn't matter, the value is still R and 2R.

In r-2r ladder circuit the minimum and maximum resistances available are are and 2R respectively. So as given lowest resistance is 1 ohm then maximum resistance will be 2*1 ohm.

In R-2R circuit there are only two value of resistors.

Which are the R and the 2R.

So if one of the resistance (R is equal to 1 kohm) then the other resistance is 2R or 2(1 kohm) = 2 kohm.

In every step there are two resistors of values are in R and 2R repactively.Hence lowest resistance in the circuit is 1 ohm(given in quset.)obvious highest resisantce in the ckt will be 2 ohm.
