Since the value of the resistors is not given ,assuming that the fourth resistor R is connected in series with three more resistors the net resistance is R1+R2+R3+R4 = R+R+R+R =4R.

The 4th resistor added increases the resistance by one fourth.( if all the resistance are equal)

SUPPOSE,R1=5OHM, R2=6OHM R3=4OHM SO R4=?
IN SERIES, THE RESISTANCE IS 1/R,SO,
R1+R2+R3+R4=MORE THEN R1+R2+R3
SO, RESISTANCE IS INCREASE.

In series combination R = R1+R1+R3+R4+ .... Rn.

So resistance will surely increase

R=R1+R2=R3+R4+............Rn

So resistance will increase.

We know that in series combination R = R1+R1+R3+R4+ .... Rn.

So resistance will increase.

The effective resistance in series is the sum of resistance. Therefore if a resistance is added in series,the overall resistance will increase. Answer-INCREASES
