                COS(phaseangle) = R/Z.
V = IZ.
If V of inductor increases, Z increases so cos(phaseangle) decreases so phase angle increases.
                V = IZ.
If V of inductor increases, Z increases so cos(phaseangle) decreases so phase angle increases.

                V of inductor directly proportional to the reactance of inductor when V across L greater than V across R. Xl is greater than R circuit in inductive in nature. So phase angle increases.

                It is explained by the phasor diagram.

                Phase angle =tan'(Vc/Vr).
