What is the difference between the 8031 and the 8051?

8031 has no on-chip ROM. To use this we have to connect external ROM to it. 8051 is limited to 4k bytes only (to fetch and execute the code). But the ROM containing 8031 can as large as the 64kbytes. By adding external ROM to 8031, you lose 2 ports. That leaves the 2 ports for i/o operations. To solve this problem, you have to add externel i/o to the 8031.

The 8031 is the ROM less version of 8051.
The UV-EPROM version of 8051 is 8751.

In 8031 ROM is not necessary but we can attach an external ROM...
