An optocoupler is a solid-state electronic device with a light emitter, light path, and a light detector encased in a single package. It provides electrical isolation between any two circuits.

Optocoupler consists of a Light source (LED), a dielectric material in the center and a sensor/ (photoresistor).

It is mainly used to overcome the high voltages and voltage surges in the circuit to avoid any damage.

It should be photo diode or photo transistor instead of the zener diode.
